Ely Railway Station (DG 2022)

Then and Now (DG)

The Station was opened in 1845 by the Eastern Counties Railway company. It sits on the Fen Line which runs between Cambridge and Kings Lynn. It used to continue on to Hunstanton, but that section of line was closed in 1969. Ely station was modified by British Rail in the early 1990s. It was during this modification that the space for three tracks between the platforms was reduced to two lines and the lines were electrified.
