The windmill in 1812 (possibly 1831) Cambridgeshire Collection

Trumpington Windmill

A windmill used to stand at the corner of Trumpington Road and Long Road

Trumpington Windmill c.1880. Built 1812

Windmill at the end of Long (Mill) Road, 1898 (Cambridgeshire Collection)

In about 1812 a windmill was built to the east of Trumpington Road (on the north side of Long Road near the Long Road/Trumpington Road junction). It ceased working in 1887 and was then sold to John Piele, Master of Christ’s College. When he failed to find a tenant he had it pulled down. Photo by Ralph Lord which won a contemporary photographic competition.
