Perse Preparatory School for Boys, Bateman Street

History of the Perse Prep. Bateman Street

Hubert Cooper wrote that he started at the Perse Prep in 1941. ‘This was then centred on a large old house with playing field at the rear in land belonging to Bateman Gardens. 

The Headmaster, Lindeman, was a heavy, dark and well-groomed man who had great bushy eyebrows. Teaching was carried out by women who were always addressed as “Sir” in order that we could not years later address the male staff of the upper school incorrectly.”
