Harlow Car was one of the first large houses built in this part of Cherry Hinton Road. In 1891 it was occupied by James Johnston and his wife and servant. He was a Scottish sack merchant who later moved to Bateman Street. In 1901 it was the home of Samuel Crisswell b.1847 retired grocer from Newmarket, his wife and servant, and it stayed in this name until at least 1913.
In the late 20th century it was one of four houses demolished to allow for the construction of the Normanhurst residential home.
