Alfred Edwards b. 1878, was a sapper in the Royal Engineers (Signal Section). At the outbreak of WWI he was a third class engineering clerk; he had married Lilian in 1905 and had two children. In 1913 he is recorded as living at no. 11 Maidenhead. However his military record states his address as no. 22. He was mobilized in January 1916. In April 1916 he was found absent from church parade and confined to barracks for two days.
