1888 – the Electoral Register records a Frederick Edwards living here.
Head of household in 1891 is George William Lusher, a 37 year old painter from Cambridge. His first wife, Ellen, died in 1879. George married Lettice Miller in February 1881. In 1891 there are four children in the household. Ethel Rosa is 12, and the daughter of Ellen. Lettie Ellen is 9, Gertude is 5 and Lily is 3.
In 1901 Ethel is living in Friern Barnet (now in the London Borough of Barnet) working as a domestic servant to the Howard family. Gertrude is also a domestic servant, but she still lives at home with her parents. Lily is 13 and is possibly still at school.
Lettie is 19 in 1901, but no job is listed for her. She died in 1906, so maybe she was unwell and unable to work for some reason.
By 1911 the census records that George and Lily have now been married for thirty years. The three girls are all living away from home now. Ethel and Lily are working for Sidney White, a medical practioner, on Chesterton Road. Ethel as a cook and Lily as a maid. Gertrude also works as a cook for the Andrews family living at Bateman Lodge on Bateman Street.
George died in 1918, and the 1921 census shows that Lettie, now 68, is living here with Ethel. Ethel has recorded that she is 42 and working as a private servant to Mrs Gillson of 36 Station Road. Lettie died in 1933, and Ethel can be found on the 1939 register, living at number 11 and working as a domestic servant.
Gertrude remains a cook and she works for the Hopkinson family at 6 Adams Road, where she can still be found working in 1939. After her retirement she returns to 11 York Street, where she remains with her sister Ethel until her death in 1962.
Ethel died in March 1966, still living at 11 York Street.
The whole family are buried together in Mill Road Cemetery.
