The Plough, Elsworth

History of the Plough

Elsworth OS map 1886 showing Plough Inn as P.H.

Vanishing Cambridgeshire notes: Elsworth was a photographer’s paradise. It has no traffic problems, is on the bus route and has no petrol pump. It is a typical Cambridgeshire village, and I hope it will not change. (CDN 21.3.1935) In 1903 the pub was the only one serving the villages of Elsworth and Knapwell. A commentator noted that lives might well be lost at Knapwell because of the lack of available brandy for the ill.
