Sedley Day Nursery/Patacake Nursery

History of the Sedley Nursery site

The Sedley Day Nursery opened on 12 June 1942. It was a war time measure for children of mothers working in local factories. In the early days it opened at 8am and gave breakfast. In 1947 parents paid 5s per week.

In the 1980s Rattee and Kett built a new home for the nursery replacing an outdated 1950s building that was subsequently demolished. The site is now used by the Patacake Nursery.

When Sedley Infants School closed in 2002 Sheila Glasswell, a teacher at the school for 14 years, compiled a history of the school which you can download as a PDF below.
