CAS report 1999 ‘Roman Cambridge’ by Alexander and Pullinger, p.67, describes the clear evidence found of a tower next to the west gate of the Roman site. Most of the stone had been robbed, but there was evidence of a tower c. 4m by 5m projecting in front of the town wall. The footings of the northwestern half of the gate and what was probably a guardroom were substantially intact.
