History of The Limes

1913 The Limes

Charle Lockhart Roberson

This was lived in by Alderman Frank Doggett, who became a mayor of Cambridge. He was a guest of honour at a party given to soldiers returning home after WWII. It was organised by those who raised money for the Oxford and Windsor Road homecoming fund and was held at the Dorothy cafe. All returning soldiers were given a pen with their name on.

Cambridge has experienced its hottest day for several years. Alderman F. Doggett, the well-known weather recorder, reported that the temperature at his Oxford Road station had reached 95 degrees Fahrenheit in the sun before mid-afternoon. The previous night was the hottest of the year, with the temperature rising to 63 degrees, compared with an average night-time temperature of 49 degrees. The Automobile Association box at Trumpington reported the heaviest Saturday traffic of the year.
