Tom Weaver is a Senior Character Artist at Jagex, where he helps create the characters and visual experiences that bring games to life for millions of players worldwide. Originally from Hertfordshire, Tom has spent the past four years working in Cambridge, contributing to one of the city’s most successful and internationally recognised games studios.
Tom’s journey into the games industry began with an art internship at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe in Cambridge, where he gained hands-on experience in 3D modelling, texturing and game production. A First-Class Honours graduate in Computer Games Design from Suffolk University, he has built a career that blends technical skills with artistic creativity.
As part of Cambridge’s thriving games industry, Tom represents the artists whose work helps maintain the city’s reputation as a global centre for digital innovation. Reflecting on his work, Tom believes “Every character tells a story, and it’s incredibly rewarding to create worlds that players can connect with and remember.”
This story was shared by a volunteer as part of the Broken Tech, Broken Earth project which aims to co-create events with the local community about the social, historical and environmental impacts of technology. This project is externally funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund as part of the Museum Association. The project is led by the Centre for Computing History, which is a registered educational charity and independent museum located in Cambridge. Our mission is to use our collections, displays, learning programmes, and events to engage the public with the developments in computing over the past 80 years.
