1907

By 1907 the King Street depot of Stetchworth Dairy formed an important part of Cambridge’s food distribution network. Every day the business supplied around 400 gallons of milk to eighteen Cambridge colleges as well as approximately 1,800 private households. The scale of these deliveries illustrates both the growing demand for fresh milk in an expanding university town and the efficiency of the distribution systems that connected surrounding villages with consumers in Cambridge. King Street’s position close to the historic commercial centre made it an ideal location for such a depot, serving both institutional and domestic customers.
