Cambridge Airport, Lysander base

History of Lysander base at Cambridge Airport

Michael Bowyer in Air Raid! pub 1986 writes about the Lysanders that were based in this area of Cambridge airport in WWII.

Every day, at dawn and at dusk, two Lysanders left Cambridge Airport to patrol the coast of East Anglia for signs of enemy invasion. The squadron dispersed on the corner of the airfield closest to Cherry Hinton were a possible target for bombing and on 28 August a Ju88 attacked with HE and incendiary bombs. However, there was little serious damage.
