Jesus Green Lido

History of Jesus Green Lido

The lido was opened in 1923 and is a rare surviving example of the outdoor swimming pools built across the country in the 1920s.

There is a Wikipedia article here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_Green_Swimming_Pool

MM sent this note in 2025:

I remember swimming here during the 1950s when it had diving boards and one end was the boys changing sheds and the other the girls. When I was a pupil at The Brunswick boys school I remember we were taken for swimming lessons by our teacher Mr Baraclough. These were every week from the start of the summer term. We walked alongside the river to the pool swam and walked back. The water was cold! I’m not sure when the diving boards were taken away, they were certainly there in the early 1960s.
