William Mansfield

Harold William Mansfield was born in 1897. His parents, James William and Jeanette lived first at 16 Union Lane but then moved to Fairview, 225 Milton Road. In 1913 this was the furthest house east on the road.

Harold worked for the University Physiological Laboratory. He enlisted in the Suffolk Regiment and in August 1916 he was in the Passchendaele area.

Harold became stranded in a shell hole and was captured and made prisoner 13th November 1916.  He died of starvation on 25th July 1917.
