The cottages at La Hogue were built in 1880. Nos 7 & 8 have a datestone with the monogram WMT for William Montague Tharp (1837-1899) owner of Chippenham Hall. La Hogue is a name associated with. Admiral Edward Russell, Lord Orford, who claimed a victory against the French at the Battle of La Hogue in 1692. He purchased the manor of Chippenham in the late 17th century.

In 1939 Elizabeth Bloye was living with her parents at Ten Mile Bank nr Downham Market. She was born in 1902 in Hackney and died in April 1964 nr Nemarket.
In 1946 her daughter Amelia Josephine Bloye was living at 48 Bateman Street.
