In 1925 there were 4 public houses along Victoria Street: the Black Horse, the Wagon and Horses, the Snips and Partridge and the Anchor.

1848 19th Feb. The inquest was held at the Anchor into the death of Elizabeth Crabb. Her husband John Crabb was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to two years hard labour.
