Lattenbury Hall, Papworth St Agnes

History of Lattenbury Hall

Dora Tack writes about Lattenbury Hall in Whispering Elms.

It was a large house, set among the tall elms of Lattenbury Hill. It was approached through a white gate, along a wide gravel drive which swept round in a circle before the front door.

Lt/Col Harvey Sperling, b Canada. Served in WWI on NW Indian Frontier. In WWII commanded a Battalion of Indian Infantry. D 1958 aged 61.

Colonel Alan Charles Sperling, OBE MC, born Lattenbury Hill. Served with First Battalion The Suffolk Regiment in WWII. Landed on ‘D’ Day with the Assault Division 6th June and was wounded. he started the Home Guard in the village as was the only person with military training.
