Priory Hill House, St Neots

History of Priory Hill House

George Fydell Rowley of Priory House, St Neots, 1930s

The first house was built in the C18th and rebuilt in the C19th. The Rowley family lived here for several generations until the house was bought by the local authority in the 1960s and then demolished in 1965 to make way for a housing estate.

George Fydell Rowley was an eccentric, opposed to moto-cars. He expected guests to arrive by horse-drawn vehicles. He died in 1933.

Thatched cottages for the gamekeeprs who worked for Priory House. They were built shortly before 1890. Photo 1890. They were demolished after WWII.
