83 Castle Street

History of 83 Castle Street

1959 Royal Commission on Historical Monuments Survey of Cambridge: of two storeys with attics, was built with timber-framed walls in the 16th or 17th cent. early in the 19th cent. the walls were entirely faced with Gault brick … is roofed with the ridge parallel with the street, suggesting that the house originally was one of a row, like the houses in Magdalene Street.

In 1881 Dan Button was a baker living with his sister and brother in law in Harston at the bakers shop next to the Coach and Horses pub. The Museum of Cambridge has the Button family photograph album from this period. Few of the photos are labelled.
