Claude  [Ellis] and [Constance] Eva Tongue. They had married in 1933 and in 1939 were living at 6 Hills Road.

In 1911 Constance was living at 89 Mill Road

They married at Emmanuel Congregational church Cambridge 2 September 1933. The reception was at St Anne’s Coleridge Road.  The bridesmaid, from left were Miss Penney, chief cutter, and Miss Iris Brooks, a hairdresser in Castle Street. All the dresses were made by Constance Pyle and assistants.

Christopher Tongue continues his family history [previous part]: She [Constance Pyle] had met [in the 1930s] a Welshman, Will Roberts, and became engaged to him, being received with open arms by his family in Cardiff, but had found some reason to call off the marriage. Then a few years later she met a suave Franco-Greek named Jim Paroussi in London, who had seemed an ideal companion and man of the world. As far as Eva was concerned this romantic affair was meant to lead to marriage, but one day the truth emerged that he was already happily married with a child on the Continent. it was a shocking deceit which the demands of daily business life could only block out partially. At this juncture her sister Olive suggested that Eva should meet Claude Tongue who had recently lost his wife. The meeting led to a shared sympathy and eventually to a carefully planned marriage – neither partner wished to get hurt again. [continued]
