History of 160 High Street, Cottenham

Listed building:

Late C17. The house occupies part of the site of the buildings of the Manor of Crowlands which were rebuilt c.1454. No evidence of the C15 building is visible.

William Norman, 44, farmer 77 acres employing 3 labourers


1861:

William Norman, 54, farming 30 acres


1871:

William Norman, 64, farmer 33 acres employing 1 man, b Cottenham


1881:

Robert Norman, 46, farmer of 76 acres employing 2 men and 1 boy, b Cottenham


1891:

Robert Norman, 56, farmer

The Norman farm grew asparagus amongst other vegetables.


1901: see Baptist Chapel


1911:

Robert Norman, 79, living with son, b Willingham


1939: (96)

Clifford Norman, b 1869, farmer retired

Elizabeth Harris, b 1866, housekeeper
