Buildings on this side of the Green were destroyed in a fire in the 1940s. They were owned by Chivers and subsequently restored to their original design.
Next to the cottages was a huge barn where the Baptist preacher C H Spurgeon came for tea with the congregation after preaching in the chapel opposite.
