What was known as ‘Histon Pond’ was actually part of a network of streams. There was a pump on the south side of it that had never been known to run dry; the well it fed was only 8ft deep. This was because the lower green sand aquifer came so close to the surface at this point.
Until 1912 the Green was classed as manorial waste and was the property of the Lord of the Manor. In this year the Rights were purchased and all open spaces are now controlled by the Village Council.
