John M Goode bought the house for £2,400. he pulled down a house that stood where the Topiary Tree shop is now sited.

Mrs Goode died and left over £153,000 in her will. A large bequest was made to Addenbrookes Hospital who named the Goode Ward after her. She was the daughter of John Swan, auctioneer and cabinet-maker whose premises stood at 18-19 Sidney Street.
