In Sheila Andrews, Steps Back in Time, 1997, (referred to in Vanishing Cambridge p.176), she recalls: Crouchmans was divided into three cottages. In the first one lived David Wade who was a roadman with his daughter Florrie. In later years that cottage was taken down and rebuilt in the meadow opposite Townsend Springs. In the second cottage lived Mrs Neeves with her daughters, and in the third cottage lived three bachelors known by the names of Bullock, Skatey and Fee Gambie. Bullock would ride a bicycle without pedals when he went to Fowlmere. Skatey worked on the land and Fee walked with two sticks and stayed at home.
By 1994 the thatched roof had been replaced with tiles and dormer windows added.
