Ebenezer Tredgett opened a fruiterers shop. He also ran and lived at the Ainger Nurseries in Histon Road. Newspaper adverts show the connection of the two businesses. The Tredgett’s had a stall on Market Hill in 1875 (notice published in 1875).
Sarah Tredgett ran the fruiterers and florists with the help of her family.
Maude Constable, with whom Ebenezer ran away to New Zealand, was a shop assistant at this time.

Sarah Tredgett and Sons, fruiterers and florists
According to Enid Porter in ‘Victorian Cambridge’ George Tredgett had had a florist’s shop on Market Hill from the mid 19th centruy; they had bought a nursery garden business in Mill Road fro Jabez Chater in 1871. This was later sold when Mill Road was developed and they moved to the Ainger Nurseries in Histon Road.
Last year that notices referring to Harry Tredgett can be found. Ebenezer Tredgett Junior seems to have opened a business nearby in 1913 but he then served in WWI. (email from KT 2022)
