In 2024 LB sent us the following information: Back in 1970s I trained as a hairdresser in “Susans International Hair Salon,” the first salon in Cambridge to do Afro-Caribbean hair as many of the clients were local people; that sat on the site of 52 Hemingford Road, a salon that was owned by a landlady called Mrs Cooper who had ran a salon in the 1960s there. In 1970s & 1980s it was rented by my boss Susan Hind. Her husband, Peter Hind, owned the little fruit and veg convenience shop that was on the corner of Ross Street and St Phillips Road in the 1970s & 80s. I later moved salons to 46 Mill Road ( a furniture shop now), a salon called John Newtons that was a barbers at the front and ladies salon at the back. My grandparents lived at 25 Mill Road in a flat above the doctors where my Grandma Mrs Hanzl worked as the doctor’s receptionist so I can tell you all the shops etc that were around in the 1970s & 80s.
