Rattee and Kett were the builder’s of the Fisons offices in Hauxton. These were demolished circa 2010 to make way for a housing development. Fisons had taken over the site from Pest Control Ltd in 1953. They bought additional land on either side of the A10 and erected a large office block. Subsequently owneship passed through a number of hands: FBC, Schering Agrochemicals, AgrEvo, Aventis CropScience and finally Bayer CropScience. The site was closed in 2004.
In 2021 Capturing Cambridge was sent this anecdote:
My uncle worked there many years ago and went to Russia to promote their products. He was reported to the KGB for taking pictures of railway stations and bridges; they came to his hotel and removed the film from his camera.
I also remember that they had a clubhouse over the road, which we held our 18th birthday party in which was arranged by my uncle. (PF 2021)
In 2022 MH added: My father worked there for 30 years. I played cricket, hockey and rugby for the Fison’s Sports and Social Club and spent many a happy hour in the Clubhouse bar.
