Fire Station, Cottenham

History of the Fire Station

1848

See Francis Garrett, Cottenham Ablaze

Fire destroyed a stack on the premises of John Male (site of present Fire Station). A James Hayes of Grantchester confessed to setting fire to the stack even though he had no motive. He was convicted in March 1848 to 15 months hard labour.
