It seems likely that Charle’s mother was widowed, remarried and by 1913 was living at 73 Cambridge Place. Charles continued to live with his grandfather.

Charles Brignall, labourer

Charles Brignell [sic]: Private 35677, “B” Company, 1st Battalion, Essex Regiment. Killed in action 20th November 1917. Aged 25. Born, resident and enlisted Cambridge. Son of Mrs. Sarah Woollard, of 73, Cambridge Place, Cambridge. No known grave. Commemorated on CAMBRAI MEMORIAL, LOUVERVAL, Nord, France. Panel 7 and 8. See also Cambridge Guildhall (St Paul’s Roll of Honour)
