This property does not appear on the census for 1891 or 1901.  There are no electoral register entries for these years.

“Lower York Street Desirable Freehold Properties … A Plot of Land, situate between Nos. 137 and 143 Lower York Street, which Messrs Wright and Scruby are instructed to sell by Auction.”  Cambridge Chronicle and Journal 16 October 1896

1910 Land Tax

The odd numbered properties, 129 – 151 (Lower) York Street, all appear on the 1910 Land Tax owned by a Mrs M C Sheldrick who lived at 151 Chesterton Road.

Mary Catherine Sheldrick (1850 – 11 September 1922) was married to Joseph Albert Sheldrick, a Superindendent for the Post Office.

James Jeffkins is the tenant named on the Land Tax document.

1910-1912

Samuel Fairweather, 27, ambulance driver for fever hospital, b. Cambridge

Sarah Fairweather, 25, b. Cambridge

Albert Fairweather, 3, b. Cambridge

Sarah and Samuel have been married for four years and have one child.  The electoral registers show that he lived here between 1910 and 1912.

1923 & 1925 – Harry Farrington is also registered at this property.

1919-1966

In 1911 Florence Elizabeth Maud Reid has been married for a year to her new husband Frederick George Bruce.  Florence has two children, Lillian Bruce Frost (3) and Rose Bruce Frost (1). They are living with Florence’s mother at number 137.

Electoral registers show Frederick here from 1919.

The 1939 register records that Frederick was born on the 30th June 1880 and is employed “above ground in heavy public works”.  Florence was born on the 24th September 1888. Their daughter, Annie, is still living with them and employed as a shorthand typist.  Son Stephen is living next door with his grandmother.

The Bruce family live here until 1966 at least.
