Marie Burrows and her family moved to Luard Road at the outbreak of World War II, from Falconhurst 294 Cherry Hinton Road. Her father was appointed an air raid patrol officer. Here she recalls father’s duties:

Here she recalls the building of air raid shelters and the incendiary bombs that fell on their house.

Surplus food was left in bins along the road but it didn’t always reach the correct destination!
