Frank Stubbings remembered watching Wal Mott chewing dried peas while he milked as an alternative to smoking.

In 1981 Sara Payne (CWN March 1981) collected reminiscences about Mr Mott the dairyman. Albert Rhodes (51 Selwyn Road) remembered how his eldest brother Fred used to drive Mott’s cows across the Mill. Wallis Mott’s daughter recalled how she used to help her father with his round. “I used to run around with the old float and when we brought the cows back across the Mill Pond and up Newnham Road, we used to hold up all the traffic. My ducks and hens used to follow behind.”

During WWI, Ludovick Stewart (of The Maltings) recalled Mrs Mott coming into their garden to cry on the shoulder of his mother when she heard her son had been killed.

The property was later a doctor’s surgery. Mrs Joyce Stewart worked there for Dr Jennens.
