Neil BakerNeil Baker is a Chartered Engineer whose career has spanned more than three decades of innovation in software engineering, telecommunications, and aerospace. Based in the Cambridge for much of his professional life, his career has included senior engineering and consultancy roles at The Technology Partnership (TTP), Anite Telecoms, Anritsu, Xerox, Sunplus mM UK, TTPCom, and Marconi Instruments, where he led the design and implementation of complex telecommunications protocols.
Alongside his technical accomplishments, Neil has built a reputation for effective project and technical leadership, guiding multidisciplinary engineering teams through complex development programmes. “Most engineering problems look impossible, until you’ve stared at them long enough for them to admit they’re just complicated,” he remarks. Proficient in a wide range of programming languages, including C++, C#, Java, Python, and Rust, he continues to bring extensive experience to engineering projects within Cambridge.
This story was shared by a volunteer as part of the Broken Tech, Broken Earth project which aims to co-create events with the local community about the social, historical and environmental impacts of technology. This project is externally funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund as part of the Museum Association. The project is led by the Centre for Computing History, which is a registered educational charity and independent museum located in Cambridge. Our mission is to use our collections, displays, learning programmes, and events to engage the public with the developments in computing over the past 80 years.
