Notes from D K Tack, A Maze of Memories. In 1948 the Tacks’ son Peter started school in the village when he was 5 years old. The school mistress was Mrs Brend. The under 7s were taught by Miss Hilma Furniss, the older pupils by the head-mistress, Mrs Frith. This class consisted of about 40 pupils aged from 8 to 14 or 15.

In 1948 there were bucket lavatories for the children across the playground.
