Victor Russell John Nightingale born 1887, private 43323 7th Bttn Bedford Regiment. He was a stock exchange clerk. He was killed 15/8/1917 and is commemorated on the Menin Gate.

In 2017 Jess Applin talked about mother’s family.

His mother was Hilda E. Coe (b. 1916 Chesterton). She had been brought up at 31 Cowper Road. Her parents were Frederick Charles Coe, born in Cherry Hinton in 1877 and christened at St Andrew’s church on 7th October 1877, and Jane Nightingale, born 1878 in Trumpington. They were married at St John the Evangelist, Hills Road on Christmas Day 1900. Frederick had worked on the railways as a platelayer. Jane died in 1940, Frederick in 1947.

Jess describes how his grandfather guarded the Nissen hut in the field at the end of his garden during and after WWII.
