T C Lethbridge was associated with the museum for many years. In his personal memoir, Ghost and Ghoul (1962), he recorded two ghost stories associated with the place. These are described in The Cambridge Ghost Book, 2000, Halliday and Murdie p.9.

One was about a human skull that was said to jump off shelves and make exhibits move about. More sinister were the stories about a set of witch doctor’s bones that were given to the museum. These were four small animal bones covered in geometric patterns and threaded on a string. Two unexplained deaths were associated with these objects.
