Large crowds gathered for the stone-laying of the new Arbury Road Baptist Church Hall and School. The new church will have the support of the Old Chesterton Baptists who will vacate their present chapel when the new building is complete. It will serve the needs of inhabitants of Green End Road, Milton Road and the Hurst Park & Chesterton Hall Estates and will be able to welcome members of other denominations. The ceremony was one of the most unique ever performed, there being six foundation stones laid.
