History of 39 Milton Road

Nos 37 & 39 Milton Road were a nursing home from at least 1939- 1946

In 2023 DC sent an email. He had been adopted c.1952 and Miss Kingston and this address had appeared on his adoption papers.

1939 39-37 Nursing Home

Nurse Kingston

ML sent us this note in 2025:

I was born there in 1946.  In attendance were nurses Kingston, Williams and Hawkes – Lilian Hawkes, my Mother’s Aunt – (see Victoria Homes, Victoria Rd where she was resident nurse in 1930s).
Following my delivery, at 7.15pm, Dr Oakden was called in to give follow-up expertise; my mother told me he arrived wearing evening dress and was none too pleased since he was on his way to the Arts Theatre!
