JK sent the following note in 2025:
Alice Hobson, daughter of Frank William Hobson & Alice Rebecca Hobson lived here with her husband Albert George Andrews from 1959. The house was owned by Christ College and George was Head Gardener there from 1955 until his retirement in 1980 George was well known in the area as a judge at Flower Shows, Gardening competitions across the town and a speaker at Garden clubs. Outside of this professional interest in horticulture he had a passion for keeping racing pigeons which could be seen flying around the neighbourhood. College students would board at the house and Alice would spoil them with homemade cakes and she also worked as a cook. The house was constantly busy with students, family, friends and neighbours coming and going. In the summer when college students ‘went down’ then overseas students attending English language courses stayed here and had full board and opportunities to learn the language talking to local residents! Only English could be spoken at the dinner table. Alice died in 1986 and George moved from the house in 1987/8.
