Ely Bridge Stuntney Road (Walter Scott)

Ely Bridge, Stuntney Road

History of Ely Bridge

The Ely Bridge was in poor condition in 1878. The Cambs Times 4th October reported that the bridge, built in 1827, was scarcely safe, three girders having broken ; it was only wide enough for one vehicle and heavy loads have to be taken off before crossing the bridge. Watchmen were placed there day and night.
