Baptism in the river at Isleham (MoC102/70)In the photo above the chain for the ferry can be seen in the foreground.
Arthur Houghton notes that Isleham Ferry made history when the famous evangelist Spurgeon walked from Newmarket to Isleham and was baptised by Rev Cantlow (Paster of the Baptist church in Pound Lane) on 3rd May 1850. Baptisms continued at the drawbridge until the river was dredged in the 1920s.
