History of Frederick Sage
Frederick Sage and Co was a long-established joinery and shop-fitting firm when it commissioned first one and then a second new factory with distinctive water-tower, beside the railway in Walton.
In 1915 it won contracts to assemble aircraft for the expanding RFC and RNAS. The factory produced over 80 Short 184 Seaplanes, and over 300 BE2cs and Avro 504Ks. The Short 184s were employed on anti-submarine patrols.
