CIP 12.3.1881: remand case involving the theft of knives from Robert Wm Bowd ironmonger of 111 and 112 Fitzroy Street. Evidence of Detective Sergeant Kirbyshire was that he had retrieved a knife from John Greenwood, baker, of Gwydir Street. [there is only one John Greenwood in the 1881 census in Cambridge, a tailor, a this address.]

CDN 24.4.1918: News has been received by Mrs Ginger 41 Gwydir Street that her son Corpl. A A Ginger Royal Munster Fusiliers died on April 8th from wounds received in action while serving with the Egyptian Expeditionary Forces. Corporal Ginger joined the Suffolk Yeomanry in November 1914 at the age of 18. He was sent to Salonica in September 1915 and was the transferred to the Munster Fusiliers with whom he went went to Palestine in October 1917. he was a keen and active member of St Columba’s Mission Young Men’s Bible Class and represented the attached club in football running and boxing. Although quite a youngster he had begun to make a reputation for himself as a runner and had won prizes for the mile at Cottenham, Histon, Shelford, Huntingdon and Ely.
