17 High Street, Over

History of 17 High Street

Listed Building

House, 1700. (Historic England)

17 High Street, Over (RGL2025)

This was the Post Office in 1899; the doorway and porch are Jacobean. The heraldic Scots Thistle above the door may be connected with prisoners from the Battle of Dunbar (1650) who were brought to assist in the Fen Drainage. The original thatched house is now a builders yard. (A Walk Round The Village Of Over,E G Papworth)
