Banyan Tree (Tut and Shive Hotel), Westgate

History of the Tut and Shive Hotel

During the great fire at the end of Westgate in 1835 the vintner who owned the hotel used his many carts and barrels to carry water to the fire. As a result the hotel was one of the few buildings to be saved.
