Cantelupe Road, Haslingfield

History of Cantelupe Road

Cantelupe Road was the main way to Cambridge. On the higher part of the road, Stoney Hill, was a Saxon burial ground and a Roman settlement.

The cemetery was uncovered in 1874-5 during coprolite digging. (See C Fox (1923) Archaeology of the Cambridge area p. 257f.

CAS Proceedings 1968 has an article on S-shaped Anglo-Saxon brooches and mentions a pair from Haslingfield.
