In 1913 W M Palmer wrote in The antiquities of Linton, On the side of Chandlers hung two massive firehooks used for pulling the thatch of burning buildings. They were photographed standing alongside the Race Horse Inn, almost opposite, whose eaves have rings into which the hooks would have been inserted.
