20th June 1913: “Fire at Kerridge & Shaw’s. The outbreak was discovered by Mrs Annie Peters of 50 Sturton Street.” the Central Fire Station was called and some residents “Knowing where the hydrant was they immediately set to work to play on the flames, which had broken out in a heap of sawdust and rubbish.” The article goes on to say that Fred Peters of 50 Sturton Street also helped.
